Elisa Oyj, a Finnish telecommunications company, organizes an innovation challenge competition looking for new products for the Internet of Things (IoT) and Smart Home solutions. Elisa Innovation Challenge received nearly 100 ideas from 16 countries. Spectral Engines was accepted as semifinalist in the Internet of Things series with a solution for precision dairy farming to measure and monitor the quality of milk. Monitoring milk quality of each individual cow during the milking process provides better control over milk quality, as well as real-time information and statistics about the farm performance. Spectral Engines’ intention is to bring milk quality monitoring from labs to farms with cost-efficient sensor technology.
“We are excited about Elisa Innovation Challenge. We’ll demonstrate our milk quality sensor platform where farmer can get real-time information from their milk production. This information will help farmers to improve their farm production efficiency. It is important to combine advanced IoT cloud calculation with our affordable and high-performance sensor technology to deliver easily and efficiently quality information to farmers”, says Janne Suhonen, Chief Commercial Officer of Spectral Engines. “This kind of platform is only the first step in the development of our smart IoT sensor solution, which will enable several other sensing applications in the future in the fields of food and agriculture and pharmaceutical manufacturing to name a few.”
The 8-week development phase for Elisa Innovation Challenge was launched on Tuesday 16th of August. The jury will select three best products for the finals at Nordic Business Forum event in October 6-7th. Competition will culminate in a pitching contest and announcing the winners on the stage at Europe’s leading startup event Slush in the end of November.
