Spectral Engines, developer and provider of high-performance spectral sensors and solutions, introduces the renewed NM Sensor Module family and a cloud-based Spectral Scanner platform for industrial, portable and consumer use. The core technology of the spectral measurement is a Micromechanical (MEMS) chip, which can be packaged to meet the demands of consumer products both in size and cost. Spectral Engines is using its vast know-how, proprietary technology and partner network in developing reliable sensors and solutions for OEM customers to fulfil both commercial and technical specifications of customers’ needs.
Compact and cost-efficient NIR measurement module
Spectral Engines’ NM Sensor Modules are designed for system integrators who create leading-edge solutions for industrial or consumer applications in material sensing. The renewed NM Sensor Modules are highly compact, cost-efficient, and powerful devices for realizing true Near Infrared (NIR) spectroscopic measurement applications. The operating wavelength range has been extended up to 2.45 um, adding sensitivity and specificity for many measurements, such as detecting protein and sugar levels. The robust and high-throughput sensor solutions allow for fast, reliable and high-quality measurements even in very demanding environments. The NM module has only a single physical connector for simple OEM integration and it can be combined with any software platform. The device weighs less than 15 grams is smaller than 1-inch cube including two light sources and collection optics and comes fully factory-calibrated for wide temperature range. Spectral Engines also offers evaluation kits and Sensor Control PC software - perfect for a quick start.
Novel spectral sensing platform
For customers who want a more complete solution and fast market entry, Spectral Engines has developed a novel Spectral Scanner platform based on the NM module which offers unique benefits in many applications, such as food sensing and textile analysis. More widely, the company is currently building an IoT solution concept for applications in Industry 4.0/Smart Factory, Smart Farming, Smart Security & Safety and Smart Living. Spectral Engines IoT solution will consist of modular building blocks supporting the development of new complete sensor networks and IoT services. One current example of the Spectral Scanner platform is the Food Scanner solution which reveals the energy content, fat, protein, and sugar levels of common food substances. The solution is truly portable and easy to accommodate to other applications, both industrial and consumer. The first realization of the analyzer device was awarded the Photonics Prism Award in detectors and sensors category at Photonics West 2016 in February.
Enabling new product and business concepts
Spectral Engines launched the NM sensor family in Q2/2016. The latest announcement of a new product concept, the Smart Handheld Spectral Solution, was done in co-operation with Heptagon and GreenTropism. The Smart Handheld Spectral Solution reliably detects and analyzes common organic materials and can be used for measuring food content, recognizing textiles or identifying fake medicine, among others. Spectral Engines’ NM modules are also successfully applied to production lines in the 9-million euro Horizon project ProPAT, together with several industrial partners, such as GlaxoSmithKline, Megara Resins and Grecian Magnesite. The activities have successfully shown how the integration of smart spectral sensors, intelligent calculation algorithms, online data-analytics and process control allows manufacturing industry to increase the production efficiency and reduce waste. This was recently demonstrated in the Industrial Workshop on January 25th, 2017.
Availability and Pricing
The NM sensor family has been commercially launched in early 2016. The newest family member, NM2.5, is available for pre-orders and deliveries will start in March. The Spectral Module is the world’s most compact and cost-efficient full NIR measurement solution, with pricing starting from 990€ for small quantities, and scaling down to 100€ or less in higher volumes.
